Welcome to Nurturing Community Development Initiative (NCDI) website
Nurturing Community Development Initiatives in Africa (NCDI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving livelihoods, enhancing access to education, and fostering rural transformation in Uganda. Our work prioritizes vulnerable communities, including women, orphans, school dropouts, people with disabilities (PWDs), and older people. By mobilizing local resources, engaging stakeholders, and advocating for policy changes, NCDI aims to create lasting positive change in Uganda’s rural communities.
We engage diverse partners, including policymakers, media, non-governmental organisations, and development agencies, to amplify our impact and foster sustainable development.
Thematic Programme / Areas of Focus
Environmental Conservation & Climate Change
Deforestation, soil degradation, and climate change threaten Uganda’s rural communities. NCDI advocates for sustainable land use, tree planting initiatives, and climate adaptation strategies to build resilience against environmental challenges. We also engage in community education on climate-smart practices.
Health & Well-being
Access to healthcare in rural Uganda remains a challenge, with only 49% of the population living within 5km of a health facility. NCDI supports health outreach programs, maternal and child health initiatives, and community-led health awareness campaigns to improve healthcare access and outcomes
Rural Livelihood Improvement
Uganda’s rural communities rely primarily on agriculture for survival, yet many face food insecurity and economic instability. NCDI promotes agroecological practices, value addition, and market access initiatives to enhance food production, increase household incomes, and build resilience against climate shocks.
Education & Community Literacy
Access to quality education is essential for breaking cycles of poverty. In Uganda, the literacy rate is approximately 76%, but rural areas lag behind due to limited access to educational resources. NCDI works to increase access to education, particularly for marginalized groups, by supporting community schools, adult literacy programs, and vocational training initiatives.
