Nurturing Community Development Initiatives in Africa (NCDI Africa) is a Ugandan national non-governmental organisation working to improve the well-being and livelihoods of underserved rural communities. Founded in 2019 and registered in 2022 we strongly focus on young people, women and vulnerable children. Our programmes connect health and mental well-being, education and practical skills, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and food and nutrition security.
We work alongside communities and local partners supporting people to shape the decisions that affect their lives. We are guided by the principles of by inclusion, equity and community ownership.
Access to quality healthcare remains limited in rural Uganda. We strengthen health education and access to support in schools and communities, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights, mental well-being, hygiene and nutrition.
Many rural children and young people drop out of school or leave without practical skills. We support vulnerable children to remain in school and help young people develop skills for work and everyday life.
Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s rural economy, yet many households farm with little support and limited access to extension services, land and markets. Climate change, deforestation and soil degradation threaten long-term food security, and few young people take up farming because they lack skills, start-up capital, land and market access.
Many rural children are still undernourished, while fast and processed foods are replacing traditional diets. NCDI helps households access safe, nutritious, local food and protect the food systems and biodiversity communities depend on.
