High level breakfast meeting
On 19th November, Nurturing Community Development Initiatives in Africa (NCDI) Africa participated in a high-level breakfast meeting organized by SEATINI UGANDA under the theme: “Building Sustainable Coffee Value Chains: Uganda's Compliance to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Industrial Future.”
Together with partners including PELUM Uganda, BUCADEF, smallholder farmers, and other sector stakeholders, discussions focused on Uganda’s readiness, with only 41 days remaining to meet the EUDR requirements.
Key highlights included:
- Current challenges in the agriculture and coffee value chains
- The growing influence of multinational corporations in pushing for EUDR implementation
- Opportunities for Uganda through improved sustainability and specialty coffee markets
- Pathways for compliance: traceability systems, risk categorization, and stronger awareness from national to farmer level
The meeting was critical in ensuring that Uganda’s coffee industry remains resilient, competitive, and future-ready.
As Uganda races toward the EUDR deadline, one thing is clear: collaboration, transparency, awareness will determine whether we seize this moment of opportunity.
