Health and Well being

Access to quality healthcare remains limited in rural Uganda. We strengthen health education and access to support in schools and communities, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights, mental well-being, hygiene and nutrition.

Our approach includes community outreach, counselling and links to appropriate services. We are also working to establish school health clubs where learners can discuss mental health and SRHR, access reliable information and connect with support.

Education and Skills Development

Many rural children and young people drop out of school or leave without practical skills. We support vulnerable children to remain in school and help young people develop skills for work and everyday life.

Our priorities include literacy, vocational and digital learning, entrepreneurship and mentorship. We aim to create opportunities for young people to build confidence, earn a livelihood and participate in community development.

Agriculture, Climate Change and Environmental Management

Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s rural economy, yet many households farm with little support and limited access to extension services, land and markets. Climate change, deforestation and soil degradation threaten long-term food security, and few young people take up farming because they lack skills, start-up capital, land and market access.

We promote farming practices that improve household food production and livelihoods while protecting soils, water and biodiversity. We uphold the principles of agroecology which calls for working with nature and promoting diversity and local knowledge.

Our priorities include demonstration farms and school gardens, practical learning in sustainable agriculture, tree planting and environmental restoration. We also support greater participation by young people and women in agricultural enterprises and local markets.

Food and Nutrition Security

Many rural children are still undernourished, while fast and processed foods are replacing traditional diets. NCDI helps households access safe, nutritious, local food and protect the food systems and biodiversity communities depend on.

We promote access to safe, diverse, nutritious and culturally appropriate food.

Our approach connects household and school gardens with nutrition education and local food production. We encourage the use of indigenous crops and practical knowledge about food preparation and healthy choices, helping families make the most of locally available foods.
