Education

One of NCDI’s key interventions in education is through Spring Field College School in Mukono District, a mixed day and boarding secondary school that has been providing quality education for over 30 years. The school offers subsidized tuition fees, making education more accessible to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Springs School accommodates students from Senior 1 to Senior 6, ensuring they receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for further studies and employment opportunities.

Beyond academics, Spring Field College integrates practical skills development into its curriculum. Students are engaged in agriculture through kitchen gardening, aquaculture and environmental conservation, equipping them with hands-on experience in sustainable livelihoods. Additio3nally, the school promotes extracurricular activities such as dance and drama, nurturing creativity and confidence among learners. By fostering intellectual and practical skills, Springs School plays a critical role in shaping the future of Uganda’s youth while aligning with NCDI’s rural transformation and empowerment mission.

Health and Well-being

Access to healthcare in rural Uganda remains a challenge, with only 49% of the population living within 5km of a health facility. NCDI supports health outreach programs, maternal and child health initiatives, and community-led health awareness campaigns to improve healthcare access and outcomes.

A significant aspect of our health and well-being initiatives is mental health support, particularly for young widows facing social and economic hardships. Many young widows struggle with grief, isolation, and financial instability, increasing their vulnerability to mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety. To address this, NCDI provides psychosocial support services, including counseling and peer support groups. These services help young widows navigate emotional distress and develop coping mechanisms that enhance their resilience.

A key feature of this initiative is the pro bono contributions of professional counselors, who generously offer their expertise to provide individual and group counseling sessions. These sessions create safe spaces where young widows can share experiences, build support networks, and access emotional healing resources. Beyond counseling, NCDI also facilitates skills training and economic empowerment programs, helping young widows achieve financial independence and rebuild their lives.

NCDI helps to strengthen skills of people and communities, in small businesses and local grassroots movements in order to achieve their goals and overcome particular issues that may cause exclusion
